Weighing instruments used in more difficult conditions (in the open air, in professional kitchens, etc.) should therefore have a waterproof IP rating.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"0-why-do-electronic-scales-show-different-results\">Why do electronic scales show different results?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Some users complain about problems with obtaining a repeatable result with different items that whey exactly the same. However, this is usually not the fault of the weighing device itself, but an incorrect weighing method. In order to obtain accurate and consistent results, the device should always be placed on a perfectly even surface. The weighed products should also be placed in the middle of the platform.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if you strictly follow the above recommendations, the accuracy of the device will decrease over time and it will finally require recalibration. This is a completely normal situation, and how often it happens depends on how intensely you use the equipment. This is mainly influenced by all kinds of shocks, as well as the environment in which the device is used (humidity, dust, temperature fluctuations, etc.).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-what-is-calibration-definition\">What is calibration? &#8211; definition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Calibration is a quantitative comparison. A test weight close to the maximum capacity value is placed on the scale and the reading is checked. This allows you to define and document the operation of the weight mechanism. Once the process is completed, a certificate is issued. It compares weight indications with reference values.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the error is too great, the calibration test will fail. Necessary adjustment is then carried out, which consists of modifying the indications so that they correspond to standards assigned to the given weight. The length of this period is determined by the person issuing the document on the basis of a risk assessment, i.e. mainly the purpose of the scale and the conditions in which it is used.&nbsp;Although there is no legally defined period, a common approach is setting annual cycles. In the case of increased risk, this period may be shortened, while in the case of a lower risk &#8211; it may be extended.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Users of weighing scales should also bear in mind that it is equally important to test the scales between the scheduled calibration dates. You can do this yourself, and it will allow you to detect any inconsistencies in the weighing process on an ongoing basis. This is done using so-called test patterns, checking the compliance of parameters with the specifications. For example, the repeatability of results, centricity and sensitivity are tested. Thanks to the detection of any irregularities, inaccuracies can be eliminated on an ongoing basis.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-jewellery-scale-calibration\">Jewellery scale calibration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Periodic calibration of jewellery scales is extremely important. It translates into tangible benefits, as in this case usually even small deviations can generate significant material costs. When purchasing equipment from an authorised dealer, you can be sure that the results will be accurate. Such scales had to be verified, configured and sealed. Therefore, there is no legal obligation to recalibrate such purchased and previously verified scales. However, you should&nbsp;ideal&nbsp;carry out the calibration process periodically. This is mainly recommended with less material wastage in mind, and thus generated savings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from scales used in trade &#8211; verification is also required for scales used in the manufacture of medicines in pharmacies, in medical facilities, in analytical and pharmaceutical laboratories, used for issuing expert opinions (in courts, when calculating fees, damages, etc.), as well as scales used by customs officials. Scales for internal processes or initial weighing do not require such verification.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Self-calibration of scales that require verification is forbidden, and should only be performed by authorised bodies. After calibration, such electronic scales need to once more undergo verification. Therefore, it is usually performed after service repairs that require recalibration. It is important that you check in advance whether a given body has the necessary competences to calibrate a verified scale. It should be noted that in the case of verified scales it is advisable to perform a service check even in the case of suspected damage to the scale, e.g. as a result of being dropped.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only case when reverification is not required is internal calibration. It refers to devices with standards inside the scale and it is done automatically or on request by an authorised service. This parameter lets you quantify your doubts about the measurement results. As defined in the &#8220;International Vocabulary of Metrology&#8221; (VIM)&nbsp;paragraph 2.39, calibration is:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a set of operations that establish, under specified conditions, the relationship between values of quantities indicated by a measuring instrument or measuring system, or values represented by a material measure of a reference material, and the corresponding values realised by standards.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is therefore considered that if the measurement accuracy is not included in the calibration certificate, it has not been issued correctly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Determining the measurement accuracy is a rather complicated process and should be carried out in accordance with the reference document &#8216;EURAMET cg-18&#8217;. Among the many reasons for uncertain measurement accuracy are the type of scale, reference standard used for calibration, environment in which the measurement was carried out, and even the person operating the process.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that in accordance with legal requirements the permissible measurement accuracy uncertainty should not exceed the value indicated on the nameplate.
