How does a fruit press work?
A fruit press consists of a solid container for the pressed material, a sieve for straining the juice and a device for applying pressure to the ripe fruit. Thanks to the container, the fruit stays in place and can be crushed by vertical pressure. The escaping fruit juice is filtered through the sieve and drains through grooves at the bottom of the fruit press. In this way, large quantities of fruits and vegetables can be pressed gradually, as a large volume of liquid drains away while the solid fruit residues, also called pomace, remain and are pressed flat.
Pressing allows you to juice your fruit very efficiently and gently. You get a high juice yield and a dry pomace that can be processed elsewhere or disposed of in the compost.
What fruits can be pressed with a fruit presser?
